A Curious Farewell

“Look on every exit as being an entrance somewhere else.”

Tom Stoppard, English dramatist.

After 16 years of no stop art on the walls, ceilings and floors of the iconic big pink building at Chinderah, NSW, Curious Art is exiting. It’s been an incredibly enriching journey from the humble beginnings in the summer of 2000 through to the formation in May 2001 and finally the dramatic and historic exhibition, “The Birth of Curious” in September 2001. Unlike the adage, ‘if you can remember the sixties, you weren’t there’ those that were there on that exhibition night, truly remember it as an unveiling of a new era of art for the Tweed and beyond…

The exhibition floor was filled with visitors as they waited in the darkness. The Curious artists emerged seemingly from within the walls and began to fill the silence chanting by tea candlelights…

“The birth of curious…the birth of curious…”

The sheets came down, the lights turned on and revealed 20 plus artists in no particular order or importance, content in the knowledge of creating a synergy where  ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.’
